So, this site needs a new layout.  Preferably one that represents our show.  I think I will use Christine's theme from a long time ago ;)  Any suggestions on colors??? =D ()

January Updates

So, this is just a recap of some things in case you missed practice =]

  1. We need to start paying facility fees for the use of Hogan's Gym. Howver, since we are a nonprofit organization our fees will be pretty low  (about $2/person)! When we use Mare Island it'll probably only be the Fridays we can't use Hogan's gym (about $8/person). This money does come out of our pockets so please remember to pay at least facility fees.
  2. Our first competition is THIS Saturday! Homestead is pretty far, but don't forget to invite your friends and family because support is awesome =) Evals was a rough show but Homestead will be much better, RIGHT?!
  3. Get all your equipment fixed BEFORE competition
  4. We have the rest of our music! =) It's pretty awesome & we started the flag feature which is insanely awesome <3
  5. If you miss practice, please learn what you miss BEFORE the next practice so we don't have to back-track.
  6. Please remember to tell someone (ane, vicky or ej) when you can't make rehearsal.
  7. Do your part & we should be fine ;]

Reports of Hogan High Closing?!

There has been ongoing rumors and worries about Hogan High School closing. I did a little digging and found the SCSPAC Meeting Minutes on August 25, 09. It explains the closing proposals and different alternatives:

"Stuart Takehara provided the Committee with a combined report from the Facilities and Cost Savings sub groups. Mr. Takehara explained that the previous report provided at the fourth meeting was based on a 20:1 ratio. He has recently confirmed that the ratios should be 28:1 or even as high as 32:1.
Mr. Takehara reviewed the PPT slide presented at the previous meeting, explaining that the sub groups recommendations have not changed. They are recommending that the District close Hogan High School and transfer the students to Jesse Bethel and Vallejo High Schools..."

The reason for all of this is that the district is losing too much money; the attendance of students is getting smaller to a ratio of 20 students per teacher, where it should be at least 28 per teacher. It is later explained that there are a number of recommendations as to what will be the fate of Hogan High School students and its facilities. Here is a sum of what the minutes report (that pertains to Hogan):

Hogan would be reconfigured as either...
A. Grades 6-12 that includes Springstowne Middle School (Springstowne would then be closed.)
B. Grades K-8 that includes Springstowne Middle School and Cave Elementary School (Both school would then be closed.)
C. Closing the school and transferring its current students to Jesse Bethel and Vallejo.

However, in an attempt to keep the facilities, Mike Santos proposes prospect A. He titles his report "Hogan Middle/High Academy." This would implement a more sound structure on academics, preserving AVID, Honors, AP, IB, and Special Education programs, as well as Arts, Music, PE, and Technology.

A Hogan faculty member states that having smaller classes give better individual personalized attention.

If you want to see the entire report for minutes, the link is below.

I've updated a lot of website information such as our council/staff info as well as membership information. If you don't see your name on the list, don't panic: some members will remain unlisted until they have officially started practicing with us wink (so come to practice)! Our theme and etc will still remain TBA because we want everyone to be surprised when CCGC happens! :) I will be announcing our first fundraiser soon! So tell friends and loved ones to donate through paypal if they prefer to :)
So, the 2010 season has OFFICIALLY STARTED! Yay! We have already started conditioning and learning some work, but we are still accepting applications to join! Let us know if you are still interested!
